Warangal: Warangal Range DIG (Prisons) K Keshava Naidu said that under the Warangal Range that covers Adilabad, Khammam, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Warangal, 110 prisoners were eligible for release as per the GO. On Tuesday, 108 prisoners were released and the others who were still required in some other cases would be released later after those cases would be cleared, he said.

From Warangal Central Prison, 59 prisoners were released of the total 70 eligible prisoners. After following due procedures, they would be released, he said adding there were no naxalite prisoners were among those released on Monday. He stated that convicts before their release were given counselling on how to conduct themselves outside the jail and get accepted by the society.

At the jail, the inmates were taught to be patient, provided education, made them aware of cleanliness and trained in life skills so that they could live independently after release from jail. “Our effort is to make them capable of living a normal life, get integrated with society and welcomed outside. The jails are not just meant for imprisonment of convicts.

But they are reformation centres to change the persons coming here,” Keshava Naidu told The Hans India on Tuesday. He hoped that the released prisoners could live a normal life. The police and probation wing would monitor the prisoners released on remission. If they indulge in any unlawful act they would have to come to jail again.

The prisons and correctional services department would offer all possible assistance to the prisoners like getting bank loans to take enterprises. Many of them have worked in jail and earned income that amount would also be handed over to them, he explained.
