Hyderabad: The works on one kilometer stretch on the Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Kandlakoya, which has remained pending for long, will be completed by the end of this year. The road work could not be achieved for the last five years because of the legal issues. Three landowners, whose land was acquired for ORR alignment at Kandlakoya, filed the case in the High Court in 2010, resulting in halting of the works.

The case was then challenged in the Supreme Court that permitted the officials to resume the work. Except the 1.1 km stretch at Kandlakoya junction, the ORR package-3 works with eight lane expressway between Dundigal to Shamirpet stretching 15.70 km was completed.

The Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) has engaged the construction agency GVK infra to execute the work at Kandlakoya. Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Commissioner T Chiranjeevulu, in an official communiqué, said that instructions were given to the construction agency to complete the work by the end of this year.

A senior HGCL official said that due to pending works, the authority was losing revenue in the form toll charges. “Completing of this stretch could fetch some more revenue to the authority,” he said. The ORR Kandlakoya interchange has become a nightmare for the ORR users with a number of accidents occurring on the stretch.
