Khammam: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Telangana state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for belittling the Adivasi struggle for podu (shifting cultivation) land issue.
Inaugurating the two-day district committee meeting here on Monday, he said that KCR, who time again reiterated that tribals would be the major beneficiaries if the separate Telangana is formed, has turned his back at the cause.
“The CM insulted the tribals by terming the latter’s agitation for podu land a fashion,” he said, demanding grant of rights to Adivasis over podu lands in their possession for many years. He threatened to launch a people’s movement coordinating with other Left parties against the government if the tribals’ issues are not solved immediately.
He alleged that attacks against Dalits have increased since the BJP at Centre and the TRS at the State took up the reins of the government.
Referring to the prevailing famine conditions, Tammineni demanded the government to declare Khammam district as drought-affected.
Party district committee secretary P Sudarshan Rao demanded the government to start works under employment guarantee scheme besides supplying drinking water through tankers in villages facing water scarcity. He also demanded the government to focus on encroachments of tanks.
The meeting was presided over Kasani Ailaiah in which Buggaveeti Sarala, Macha Venkateswarlu, Ponnam Venkateswar Rao, Nunna Nageswar Rao, AJ Ramesh, Kalyanam Venkateswar Rao, Yerra Srikanth, Annavarapu Kanakaih, Bathula Lenin, Bandi Ramesh Yerra Srinivas Rao, Tata Bhaskar Rao, K Nageswar Rao, A Satyanarayana and M Satyanarayana were present.
