Khammam: Known for his uncanny knack of keeping his foes on tenterhooks, especially in the backdrop of ensuring Palace by-poll, the TRS chief and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao here on Wednesday invoked some of the great personalities of the soil Bhakta Ramadas, Sardar Jamalapuram Keshava Rao and First Generation poet and freedom fighter Ravella Venkat Rama Rao, as he pitched for taking ahead the growth story of Khammam, which endowed with abundant natural resources.

Addressing a well-attended public meeting, KCR said: “The irrigation and drinking water facilities are dismal though Khammam district has Godavari, Kinnerasani, Munneru and a host of other streams around it.” With the advent of Sitaram Project and the Bhakta Ramadasu Lift Irrigation Scheme, both irrigation and drinking water problems will be addressed, KCR said, accusing the previous governments’ lackadaisical approach towards Telangana projects.

‘When we can take Godavari waters to upward Medak district, why not the same waters are being lifted to quench the thirst of Khammam people,’ he said, referring to the reengineered model of Sitarama Project (Dummugudem). Talking on Bayyaram steel factory, the CM said that the issue has been pending with the Centre.

Even if the Centre backtracks on establishing a steel factory, State government will look for alternatives to set up a unit at Bayyaram. TRS has no bosses in Delhi to issue diktats and run the show from there, KCR said in a veiled attack against the Congress, while stating that ‘development mantra’ is the only agenda that his party has depended on.

“People have a massive faith in TRS,” KCR said, referring to the lopsided victories his party had registered in Khammam, Warangal, Hyderabad and Achampet. Stating that Tummala Nageswar Rao has been his one of best pals since their early days in politics, KCR said that opportunity beckons at people living in Palace to use his services for the overall development of the constituency. He winded up his speech promising to turn Khammam into ‘bangaru gum man’ (golden entrance).
