Harish urges Karnataka to complete RDS works

In a bid to thwart the attempt by the Andhra Pradesh government to stop Karnataka from executing works at the controversial  Rajoliband Diversion Scheme (RDS), Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao on Friday urged his Karnataka counterpart M B V Patil to complete the modernisation works on RDS project.

Hyderabad: In a bid to thwart the attempt by the Andhra Pradesh government to stop Karnataka from executing works at the controversial Rajoliband Diversion Scheme (RDS), Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao on Friday urged his Karnataka counterpart M B V Patil to complete the modernisation works on RDS project.

Harish spoke to Patil on phone and explained the necessity of completing the long pending project to address irrigation and drinking water problems facing the drought hit Mahbubnagar district. The Minister urged Patil to ignore the complaints being made by Andhra Pradesh government against the RDS project.

He said the AP government was unnecessarily trying to stop the RDS works. He said the Telangana State government was trying to get its share of water approved by the Bachawat Tribunal.

It may be mentioned that Kurnool district Collector wrote a letter to Raichur Collector asking the latter to stop the RDS works. Harish urged Patil to extend cooperation to Telangana State government in the difficult times.
