Hyderabad: The second Telangana State Formation Day celebrations were held in a grand fashion at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headoffice near Tank Bund in the city. GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan hoisted the national flag and asked the officials to work with total commitment.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that the dream of separate Statehood had been realised after a six-decade fight and asked the officials to shoulder the responsibility of turning Hyderabad into a world-class city. Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, speaking on the occasion, said that everyone should work as per the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K Taraka Rama Rao, to achieve 'Bangaru Telangana'.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that people belonging to various religions and different countries were residing in the city and there was every need to improve the developmental activities, especially with regard to sanitation. The main aim of the government, he said, was to make the city, one of its kind in the country.

He said the GHMC was the only Corporation in the entire country which had introduced e-office and also an online system through which one could apply for building permissions, which would be operational from June 3. Later, the Mayor and his deputy presented a cheque of Rs 10,000 along with an appreciation certificate to Narsing Rao, Assistant Engineer (IT department) for his laudable services. They also handed over cheques to the winners of the property tax-related bumper draw.
