Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to lead a delegation to New Delhi to apprise the Union Water Resources minister and also the Krishna River Management Board officials about the manner in which the Andhra Pradesh Government was misleading them in regard to the projects taken up by TS on rivers Godavari and Krishna.

During the three hour long meeting, the state Cabinet felt that the Andhra Pradesh government was misleading the Centre by giving wrong information. It said though the TS government was constructing the projects as per the allocated share of water in Godavari and Krishna rivers, AP government was writing letters to the Centre making baseless arguments which were far from ground realities.

The Cabinet which discussed the irrigation projects at length, gave a nod to the re-designing and re-engineering of irrigation projects aimed at optimum usage of water of Godavari waters and gave its approval for taking up Pranahita-Chevella, Devadula, Kantanapally, Rajiv Sagar, Indira Sagar, SRSP flood flow canal projects.

The Chief Minister also placed the details of the agreement that was arrived at between the government of TS and Maharashtra on the irrigation projects to be taken up on river Godavari and the Cabinet approved it. The Cabinet also decided to set up of an agriculture college in Warangal and a veterinary college in Mamunoor in the same district. Similarly, a fisheries science college will also be set up but the location is yet to be decided.

Among other important decisions taken by the Cabinet were to give a guarantee for Rs 784 crore loan to be taken by HUDCO for National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Medak and a Pharma NIMZ at Hyderabad. The government further decided to encourage micro irrigation in the state to ensure utilisation of water in a prudent manner.

The ministers felt that fish breeding should be encouraged since Mission Kakatiya had become successful. Among other decision taken were to give Rs 1,000 crore to Agriculture department to set up food processing and scientific cold storage units and also to take steps prevent adulteration.

The Cabinet also decided to form a sub-committee headed by Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy to chalk out a policy on providing salaries to Archakas (priests) working in temples through treasury. The committee members include T Srinivas Yadav, Naini Narasimha Reddy, Jupally Krishna Rao and Tummala Nageswara Rao. This committee would study the income from the temples, grants, controlling of irregularities and misuse of Hundi income and submit a report to the government. Effort would be made to regain the past glory of the temples.

The government also decided to increase the number of trustees in the endowments and religious trusts. The trusts having an income of Rs 1 crore would have 14 members as against the present 9 members. Similarly, the trusts with an income of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1 crore would also have 14 members. The temples with Rs 2 to Rs 25 lakh income will have 7 members instead of present 5 members. The temples having income of less than Rs 2 lakh will have 5 members in place of existing 3.

The Revenue department has been asked to frame a policy for utilising unused government lands. The education department has been asked to formulate a policy and assess the requirement of teaching staff for engineering colleges in the state and also prepare a report on the number of engineers who were passing out every year and the job opportunities that were available for them.

The Cabinet was of the opinion that there should be a balance between the availability of jobs and the number of engineers who pass out every year. Government also decided to call tenders for double bedroom houses district wise and the local people will be given the responsibility to see that the project was completed on time.
