Dallas, Texas: The first-ever Global Telangana Convention saw a fervent appeal from Telanganites to the KCR government to conduct a Pravasi Telangana Diwas and recognise the contribution of NRIs in the formation of new state.
The appeal came at the convention being held in Dallas from speakers and the participants who wanted the Government to use their enthusiasm for development of Telangana and this could be done through the Pravasi Telangana Diwas where all Telugu associations can participate. The convention is being organised by the Telangana Development Forum (TDF).
TRS Parliamentary Party leader A P Jithender Reddy assured to take up the issue with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. "We are still on the baby food. Give us some time to fulfill your aspirations," he said.
TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy appreciated the role of the Telangana Development Forum and other Telangana organisations during the movement and said they should now play a different role keeping an eye on the functioning of the State government and critically evaluating its policies.
Parigi MLA T Rammohan Reddy sought the help of organisations like TDF in creating more opportunities for the youth. He recalled the role of the TDF and said the spirit should continue in making the State the best destination for investments. Former minister and Gadwal MLA D K Aruna said a new culture of politics was expected in new Telangana with the government involving the Opposition parties
Maheshwaram MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy said the government was committed for all round development and it was one of the reasons why they chose to join the ruling and support the government. As a part of the celebrations, the Telangana Development Forum was committed to raise money in support of farmers in distress and around US$ 8000 was raised with Detroit and Dallas chapters of the TDF taking the lead, said TDF vice-president and GTC convenor Vijay Pitta.
"It is not just going down the memory lane and remembering our villages but the conference reinforced the thought of seeing more prosperous Telangana villages and that can be achieved only through empowering our farmers", he said. General secretary of the TDF (US) Praveen Kesireddy said the idea was not just to remember their villages at such events but contribute their mite to the farmers and strengthen the hands.
The project proposes to support 225 farmers for organic farming - 50 each in Khammam, Warangal and Nalgonda and 75 in Mahbubnagar. TDF USA president Vishweshwar Kalavala wanted the political parties to understand that they had created a positive platform for the TDF in USA and India when none dared to utter the word Telangana openly.
Gorati Venkanna and Andeshri enthralled the audience with Telangana folk songs. The cultural show by the children entertained the gathering. Earlier special prayers were offered to Yadadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. Kodad MLA N Padmavathi and former Parliament members Madhu Yashki Goud and Atmacharan Reddy were among who interacted with the participants.
