Khammam: The government is targeting to plant 230 crore saplings across the State in the next three years as part of Haritha Haram programme, Minister for Forests and BC Welfare Jogu Ramanna said.

He along with Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswar Rao and Minister for Panchayat Raj Jupally Krishna Rao conducted a review meeting of the programme here on Friday.

“A plan is on the anvil to plant 40 lakh saplings in each of the 10 Assembly constituencies in Khammam district,” Ramanna said, calling upon individuals and organisations to participate in the programme.

Saying that State departments, especially schools, Panchayat Raj and R&B, must take up plantation programme on a massive scale, the Minister instructed the officials to give importance to the farmers in choosing the kind of plantation in their fields.

He was visibly upset when the authorities failed to produce the details of plantation took up last year and their status. He directed them to prepare a report of the saplings planted and their status.

Later, Minister Krishna Rao reviewed the implementation of employment guarantee scheme in the district.
Stating that there are 5.97 lakh job card holders in the district, he deplored that though there are 52 kinds of works to carry under the NREGS officials failed to utilise the funds.

Tummala Nageswar Rao directed the officials to pull up their socks to put the district on top in the implementation of Haritha Haram and NREGS. He said the government will sanction Rs 500 crore for CC roads in the district.

Congress Deputy Floor Leader in the Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy stressed the need for constructive debates in the implementation of Haritha Haram and NREGS so that the government will achieve targeted goals.
