Warangal/Mahabubabad: The leaders of Congress and TDP have strongly condemned the hike imposed in power tariff and RTC bus fares in the State.

District Congress president N Rajender Reddy and city Congress president R Srihari have demanded the government to immediately roll back its decision to hike power and RTC charges. The government’s decision would aggravate the problems of the common man, who was already burdened with skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

The leaders staged rasto rokos in Warangal and Mahabubabad on Friday opposing the hike in power and bus charges. The TRS government, which claims of creating a ‘Golden Telangana’, has been throwing the lives of economically weaker sections into darkness.

It was sad that the government had not exempted even ‘Palle Velugu’ buses, which were the main means of transportation for rural masses, like farmers, labourers and students from the fare hike, complained Srihari during an agitation at Warangal Chowrastha.

The State government was maintaining that the hike in power tariff and RTC fares was a small one and consumers using below 100 units of power were exempted from hike. But everyone in the State have to bear the brunt as the hike would have a cascading effect and impacts prices of essential goods, said TDP leader R Prakash Reddy.
