Warangal: Hundreds of Congress party activists under Warangal (West) constituency have staged a massive protest at TSNPDCL head office here on Saturday, objecting hike in power charges.

The district Congress president N Rajender Reddy, Warangal (West) constituency in-charge Errabelli Swarna, city Congress president K Srinivasa Rao, working president Rajanala Srihari and others staged demonstration displaying placards in front of the office.

The protesting party leaders and workers raised slogans demanding the State government to roll back the hike imposed both in power charges and RTC bus fares. By imposing the hike, the TRS government was set to put heavy burden on the people in the State, they said.

Addressing the gathering, Rajender Reddy said during the last budget session Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao claimed that they have presented zero tax budget. But within a short of time of introducing the budget, the government is taxing the people with increased power charges and RTC fares.

The police have arrested the protesting Congress leaders, took them to Subedari police station and later released. Later on the day, the TPCC general secretary Sd Azmatullah Khan, Raejender Reddy and others who attended Jangaon constituency workers meeting staged dharna at Jangaon protesting the hike.
