Hyderabad: Opposing the suspension of two lower court judges on disciplinary grounds by the High Court on Monday, several city advocates held a protest near the High Court and Nampally criminal courts. The advocates raised slogans against the decision of the High Court of Judicature in suspending the judges.

Advocates and judicial officers at the Nampally criminal courts boycotted duties between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm, condemning the suspension of judges. As many as 22 advocates attempted to sneak into the High Court, but were detained and sent to Gandhi Nagar police station.

Meanwhile, high drama was witnessed at the Nampally court when Gampa Venkateswarlu, an advocate allegedly attempted suicide by consuming the liquid in a bottle he had brought with him.

After consuming the liquid, Gampa went inside the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s room and locked it from inside. Police personnel who were on bandobust duty immediately rushed him to Medwin Hospital in Abids where it was revealed that he had not consumed anything harmful.

The advocate refuted claims of an attempted suicide and said he had only taken cough syrup for a sour throat. Later, some advocates approached the State Human Rights Commission and submitted a petition alleging that the police were unruly and had detained the advocates even though they were staging a peaceful protest. However, police released the detained
advocates by evening.
