Babies to get Aadhaar at birth
Newborn babies in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would soon be issued an Aadhaar card, a birth certificate and a birth defect registration under the Telangana ‘Sishu Aadhaar Project’ (T-SAP), a pilot project that is being introduced in 19 private and government hospitals.
Hyderabad: Newborn babies in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would soon be issued an Aadhaar card, a birth certificate and a birth defect registration under the Telangana ‘Sishu Aadhaar Project’ (T-SAP), a pilot project that is being introduced in 19 private and government hospitals.
The project is being taken up at five government hospitals Osmania Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Niloufer Hospital, Modern Maternity in Nayapool and Sultan Bazaar Maternity Hospital. GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said the vision of State government was to provide all necessary certificates to newborn children immediately to push them into the digital locker.
He said that a paradigm shift from traditional concept where government asked citizens to apply for certificates, they could get those certificates directly to digital lockers. The initiative would be taken up with the mottos of ‘Government to Citizens’ and ‘Happy Babies, Telangana Babies.’
Describing T-SAP, the GHMC commissioner said newborn babies in government hospitals would be Aadhaar-enrolled and their birth certificates would be issued within seven days. He said the project would be implemented with the support of Health Department, GHMC, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Department, regional office of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI RO) – Telangana and Common Service Centre (CSC) Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
Explaining about the process of T-SAP application, Janardhan Reddy said, “We will be using tablet-based applications where details of newborn babies would be merged with Aadhaar details of the mother and father in order to complete the (Aadhaar) registration process. The kit consists of UIDAI approved model of tablet with fingerprint authentication device.”
Emphasising about the benefits, the GHMC chief said it would also help the Health department to monitor delivery of all welfare and health-related benefits to infants, tracking the child from birth to immunisation to school admission.
One of the eligible persons of the hospital or outside would be given necessary training to get certified for Aadhaar supervisor qualification as per UIDAI guidelines. Hospital head will sign for verifier documents for Aadhaar. Aadhaar enrolment will be free for children. Parents need to give the Aadhar number and authentication for enrolment.
