Hyderabad: The issue of division of lower judiciary between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is developing into a major crisis in the state of Telangana. Continuing its unprecedented action of suspending president and secretary of Telangana Judges Association, the High Court at Hyderabad on Tuesday suspended another nine judicial officers who were part of the executive of the Association. With this a total of 11 judicial officers stood suspended from their duties.

The reasons cited by the High Court for these suspensions is that the judicial officers have shown open defiance towards the High Court by participating in public protests against provisional allocation of judicial officers. According to sources, the number of suspensions is likely to increase in the coming days.

Heavy police presence was seen in the vicinity of High Court as the Telangana advocates gave a call for boycott of first court headed by the Acting Chief Justice. Only those lawyers whose cases were listed in the first court were allowed inside. The High Court registrars and deputy registrars were posted at the entrance gates of the court to identify regular advocates.

Several advocates were taken into custody when they tried to hold a protest in the premises of the court. Around 140 judicial officers gathered in Hyderabad for an extra-ordinary general body meeting on Tuesday. They passed a resolution demanding revocation of the suspension orders against the judges.

They expressed solidarity with the suspended judges and vowed to continue their activity to redress the situation. Work in all courts of Telangana state came to a standstill with both advocates and judges staying away from work. The judges are on two day mass casual leave. It is learnt that they are mulling on a 15-day leave in order to mount pressure on the High Court.

Telangana MPs K Kesava Rao, Vinod Kumar, Jithender Reddy and others along with Telangana High Court Advocates Association president Gandra Mohan Rao, Advocates JAC leaders Rajender Reddy, Hari Rao and others and also BJP legal cell leaders met Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda and Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeking immediate bifurcation of the High Court, recall of provisional list of subordinate judges and also the immediate transfer of Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale from the Hyderabad High Court. The Advocates Association has also given a call for ‘Chalo High Court’ to be observed on Wedensday.
