Even as the Sircilla conundrum continues to haunt the administration in its bid to trifurcate Karimnagar district, Ramagundam has joined the race to become a new district. Karimnagar: Even as the Sircilla conundrum continues to haunt the administration in its bid to trifurcate Karimnagar district, Ramagundam has joined the race to become a new district. Although the creation of new districts is meant for the ease of administration in reaching out to people, it appears that there was no symmetry between the viewpoint of the people, the administration and the leaders.
Since the rejig of existing districts has started for carving out new districts, there has been a lot of opposition from various quarters, especially from the people, questioning the rationale behind the move to make Sircilla, from where the Minister for Municipal Administration, KT Rama Rao represents in the Assembly, a new district as it stands to contradict the very concept of the idea.
While the draft report for the creation of Sircilla district includes 14 mandals, right from the word go people of Choppadandi mandal demonstrated their ire over merging them with Sircilla. Gangadhara and Ramadugu mandals are no different as these places are geographically more close to Karimnagar than Sircilla. So were people in Medipally and Kathalapur mandals as they want to join Jagtial because of its proximity.
This apart, the criteria of population and number of mandals is also not in line with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s orders. The CM wants every district to have about 20 mandals and around 18 lakh population. Sircilla neither boats required number of mandals nor population. It’s learnt that the proposed Sircilla district would have barely six lakh population.
Against this backdrop, but for Vemulawada MLA Ch Ramesh Babu, no people’s representative in the region is reportedly supporting Sircilla district.
Amid all this, Ramagundam has a strong case to present to be the headquarters of a new district consisting of Ramagundam, Manthani and Peddapally constituencies. Ramagundam MLA Somarapu Satyanarayana is reportedly lobbying with the high command for Ramagundam.
It may be mentioned here that people under Manthani Assembly segment have been opposing their merger with the proposed Prof Jayashankar (Bhupalpalli) district. They demand formation of Manthani district by merging Ramagundam and Peddapalli Assembly segments.
Speaking to The Hans India, Deputy CLP Leader T Jeevan Reddy said: “People’s convenience is of paramount importance. Though carving out new districts is a welcome move, creation should be more apolitical.”
Pointing out Choppadandi, Gangadhara, Ramadugu, Kathalapur and Medipally mandals, he said that government should take cognizance of people’s interests. This apart, creating Ramagundam district will augur well for the people of three constituencies – Ramagundam, Manthani and Peddapalli.
