Warangal: The TSRTC chairman, S Satyanarayana, has scoffed at the protests by Opposition parties over the recent hike in RTC bus fares.

Bus fares were increased five times during Congress regime in 2006 and every year from 2011 to 2014, has been imposing a total of 48 percent hike. The recent hike in bus fares was unavoidable and limited to 5 to 10 percent as the State government does not want to impose heavy burden on the commuters.

The RTC was incurring loss of Rs 701 crores annually and with the increased bus fares, the corporation earns only Rs 260 crores additionally. Efforts were being made to make up the remaining loss by means of improving services efficiency and utilisation, he said. Satyanarayana has on Monday launched several new bus services to Guntur and other places in Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the workers at a meeting organised on the occasion, he called upon all those working in the TSRTC to make efforts to make the corporation a profit making organisation.

‘The RTC is a workers’ organisation, where about 56,000 workers are serving. The management strives for their betterment as well as running the organisation in a profit mode,’ he said during his interaction with the employees and union leaders.
Speaking to press persons, he said currently TSRTC was incurring a loss of Rs three crore per day.

‘The corporation feels social responsibility and operates buses to every village in the State, irrespective of losses. The public should patronise the RTC and make use of its services,’ Satyanarayana appealed.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was making all out efforts to protect the corporation. With the CM’s initiative a financial assistance of Rs 300 crore released besides helping the RTC to secure Rs 350 crore loans, with the State government as guarantor to buy new buses.

The corporation was introducing new services to different destinations in Andhra Pradesh to expand its service base. With reference to the pending arrears, the RTC chairman promised that the Rs 329 crore dues would be paid to the employees soon.

Along with mayor N Narender and MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, he planted saplings at Hanamkonda depot. Inspecting the depot he asked the officials to maintain platforms and toilets in hygienic manner.
