Hyderabad: Telangana Political JAC chairman Prof Kodandaram has warned the State and Union governments not to play games with the lives of the Singareni workers.

Addressing the Singareni Collieries Contract Workers Union’ (an affiliated union of IFTU) state conference held at ECE Auditorium in Osmania University here on Sunday, Kodandaram stated that the Singareni workers, who created history by producing record level coal in a year several times, have decreased from 1.20 lakh to 55,000 due to the negligent attitude of governments.

He lamented that the workers were losing their rights due to contract system. He said that health was also important to the workers, adding that they were spending their earnings to combat their health problems. He asked the present government to solve the problems of the workers at least now though the earlier governments showed step-motherly attitude towards Singareni workers.

IFTU national president Sadineni Venkateshwarlu said that they will take up an agitation at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on August 1 for Singareni workers across the nation. He demanded the State and Central governments to pay higher salaries to the contract workers in Singareni, regularisation of contract employees working and pay arrears pending from January 2013.

Another IFTU leader M Srinivas said that the Singareni workers’ problems will be solved only by mobilising such movements. Singareni leaders Md Rasoddin, Kondapally Shanker, Sathish and representatives from Karnataka, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana were also present.
NCCW State president K Vishwanath presided over the conference.
