Hyderabad: With an increasing number of youngsters being influenced by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the State police asked the Department of Telecommunications to take immediate measures to block the access to websites containing ‘jihadi’ material, including videos.

After the recent arrests of seven terror suspects in the city, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed that the suspects were influenced by the ISIS through online.

Also in January this year, four youths were picked up from Nagpur before they were allegedly leaving for Syria via Turkey. The security agencies found that the youths were highly influenced by the ISIS propaganda and wanted to fight for its aim of establishing a caliphate.

At least 18 persons from Telangana were detained too and counselled by the police finding that they had become ISIS sympathisers. Learning that the ‘jihadi’ content was still available online and was accessible by everyone, the State police has requested the Department of Telecommunications to take immediate measures to cut down the access to such websites.
