Hyderabad: The terror suspects, who were arrested in January, approached Maoists to procure weapons and sought the latter’s advice to understand their modus operandi to carry out terror strikes across the country, according to National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA, in its supplementary charge-sheet filed in a Delhi court on Tuesday, disclosed this fact. The case was registered on December 9, 2015.

With inputs from various agencies, the NIA on January 22, 2015, conducted simultaneous raids at Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Tumkur, Aurangabad and Mumbai, and arrested 18 persons, including four from Hyderabad.

Mohammed Nafees Khan (21) of Tolichowki, Abu Anas (23) of Rajasthan, Mohammed Shareefuddin Mohiuddin Khan of Tolichowki and Mohammed Obedullah Khan (22) of Tolichowki, were arrested from Hyderabad.

The accused, who formed “Junood-ul-Khalid-Fil-Hind,” a group with allegiance to the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, had been acting on the orders of ISIS - India media chief Shafi Armar alias Yusuf-Al-Hindi alias Anjan Bhai, the NIA said.

The NIA had also arrested Mohamed Naser alias Naser Mohamed alias Khalid (23) of Tanjavur, Mubaddir Mustaq Shaik, Najmul Huda, Mohammed Afzal, Suhail Ahmed, Asif Ali, Mohammed Aleem, Mohammed Hussain Khan, Mufti Abdus Sami Qasmi, Syed Mujahid, Imran Khan and Mohammed Azhar Khan, for being the part of the group.

Shafi was in contact with the accused through Facebook, WhatsApp, Trillian, Skype, Suerspot, Twitter, Chat Secure, Nimbuzz and Telegram applications.

The agency also found that the Indian module of ISIS had held talks with Maoists in “an unidentified area” and sought their help to learn techniques of carrying out a strike and evading the police radar.

“The accused contacted Maoists to understand the modus operandi in committing terror acts and they also had plans to buy weapons from the latter,” the agency said in its charge sheet.

“They met in Devarayana Dargah in forests of Tumkur, Deoband, in September, at Tumkur hills in October, at Afzal’s house in Bengaluru in October, at Aleem’s uncle’s house in Lucknow in November, at Mohiuddin’s house in Hyderabad in December, at Pune on December 18, 2015 and met at Shareef’s house again in January 2016,” the agency said.

The agency recovered Rs 2.5 lakh cash transferred to various accounts through Hawala channels, 1.45 kg gun powder, hydrogen peroxide apart from the huge incriminating material.

The agency told the court that further investigation is on in the case as the prime accused Shafi Armar, is still at large.
