Nalgonda: Expressing displeasure over Pushkaram works going on at a snail’s pace, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy set an official deadline of July 30 for the completion all works pertaining to Krishna Pushkaralu.

During a review meeting with officials of Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Panchayat Raj (PR) on Saturday at collectorate in Nalgonda, the Minister ordered officials concerned to pay special attention to pending road works and complete them by July 30.

Emphasising the facilities to be provided to devotees during the Pushkaralu, the Minister directed the officials to work in tandem with contractors and complete works within the deadline.

Jagadish further informed severe action would be taken against contractors if they failed to complete works as per the schedule. Pointing out at the delay in works in Devarakonda division, he directed the officials concerned to look into the matter as early as possible.

In-charge collector Dr N Satyanaryana, Miryalaguda MLA Bhaskar Rao, AJC Venkat Rao and officials of R&B, PR and RWS departments and contractors participated. ‘Reach target of planting 5 cr saplings’ Meanwhile, the Minister on Saturday along with district in-charge collector Dr N Satyanaryana and Excise officials planted Indian palm and Date palm saplings at Keshrajpally.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Minister stressed the importance of trees and their role in ecological balance. He advised the government departments to reach their target of planting 5 crore saplings in the district.

He urged the officials and public to protect the planted saplings and make the programme a grand success. He informed that plantation of palm saplings not only improves green cover, but also provides livelihood for toddy tappers.
