Mahabubnagar: As the time for Krishna Pushkaralu is fast approaching, the district administration is busy in keeping everything place, when the much awaited event is formally going to be launched in Mahabubnagar on August 12 of this month.

The district administration is ensuring that all the construction works on Pushkara Ghats are completed on time. Roads, barricades, parking lots, Pushkara ghats, sanitation, drinking water, toilets and changing rooms for the devotees are almost completed and now the collector has asked the concerned officers to concentrate on sanitation and cleanliness drives at the Ghats.

“Health and safety are our priorities and this is possible only when we maintain cleanliness by not littering garbage and other unwanted waste in and around the Ghats. We are also planning to take up an awareness campaign among the surrounding villagers and also giving special training classes to the volunteers, special officers and cluster officers to give utmost importance to cleanliness and sanitation during Pushkaralu,” said Dr.T.K.Sridevi, while inspecting the Gandimalla Ghat works in the district.

According to officials almost all the 32 major and 22 minor pushkara ghats are ready and minor road works, plantations of trees along the road side and installation of toilets and other sanitary works are in progress which would be completed in 2-3 days.

Giving top priority to healthcare of the devotees, the district authorities have taken up the testing of water samples from the major 26 pushkara ghats right from Krishna Ghat at the entrance of Krishna River into the district to Patala Ganga Ghat near Srisailam are procured and tested for any harmful bacteria and chemicals.

“We have collected about a litre of water from 26 major pushkara ghats in the district and conducted analysis for the presence of harmful bacteria and chemicals. However, all the samples are found to be safe except for it being muddy coloured water. We have sent all these samples to Hyderabad for further testing,” informed Venkataiah from District water quality testing Center.

However, as a precautionary measure, the district authorities have been advised to sprinkle bleaching powder mixed with sand surrounding all the Pushkara Ghats. “Bleaching power prevents spread of bacteria and it can effectively prevent the spread of water born disease during Pushkaralu,” informed Venkataiah.

As part of the preparedness, the district administration has already appointed 32 special officers, one each for all the major ghats and seven cluster officers to ensure that the devotees can take the dip in Krishna River safely and perform the traditional and cultural rituals without polluting the environment and causing inconvenience to others.

Over 15 lakh devotees are expected to take part from various parts of state as well as other states from across the country during the pushkaralu. “We are expecting a rush of at least 13, 00,000 lakh devotees at all the major and minor ghats in the district.
