Justice Suresh Kumar Kait of the High Court at Hyderabad on Tuesday directed the Telangana State government to place on record its stated inability to extend medical aid to a child Syeda Abida suffering from a rare paediatric disease of “Goucher.’

The disease is a form of liver disorder which requires a unique blood transfusion twice a month. The child was not only treated at Niloufer Hospital and NIMS. But, it is alleged that the NIMS does not have the equipment and infrastructure also to treat the child.

The State government took the stance that the treatment was extremely expensive and it was not for the government to treat such expensive medical diseases especially when a success rate was dismissal.

The judge wondered if this would be the same response of the government if an important political functionary of the State suffered such serious disease.
