Mahbubnagar: The State government is planning to go on a big plantation programme of saplings along 10,000 kilometres of Panchayat Raj roads across the State.

Revealing this at a review programme at Zilla Parishad meeting hall in the district, Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Jupally Krishna Rao said, “The government has decided to take up the Haritha Haram programme further and on August 10, we are planning to launch the saplings plantation programme along 10,000 kilometres of Panchayat Raj roads across the State.”

Expressing his concern over some “shady” works of Haritha Haram in certain mandals of the district, the Minister warned the officials of stern action if they did not change their attitude in strictly implementing the programme and reach the intended targets on time.

“Wherever there is participation of people’s representatives, this programme is going on a faster pace and wherever there is no participation, it is moving at a snail’s pace.

Irrespective of parties, the people’s representatives must take part in Haritha Haram programme and make it a big success,” informed the Minister.

He called upon the district authorities to coordinate with the people’s representatives, women’s groups (SHGs) and youth in a big way and ensure that the intended targets of Haritha Haram were reached.

In view of this, the MPDOs concerned and tahsildars of all the mandals are directed to coordinate with the people’s representatives and ensure that the schedule of the plantation programme was informed well in advance.

“Particularly in villages, the Haritha Haram programme must be informed and propagated through traditional drum beats and must take all youth into confidence to ensure it is implemented in a big way,” the Minister said.

Referring to the MGNREGS programme in the district, the Minister directed the authorities to ensure that at least 50 per cent of job card holders get 100 days of guaranteed work.

“Haritha Haram and MGNREGS works are linked to each other to ensure that they benefit people both ways - by providing work as well as improving greenery.
