Hyderabad: Environment and Forests Minister Jogu Ramanna on Wednesday advised pilgrims coming to Krishna Pushkaralu to reduce the use of plastic covers and utilise public transport system to minimise pollution.

He was addressing a press conference here after releasing banners, posters and a mobile app, brought out by the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (PCB), aimed at educating people on avoiding water pollution during Pushkaralu.

The Minister informed that the PCB officials would take up 13 types of tests every three years during Pushkaralu. The samples would be sent to the central laboratory in Hyderabad and inform people about the results. The PCB officials would install water testing equipments at Gondimalla Pushkar Ghat where Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is slated to take a dip.

The Minister said 100 volunteers of National Green Corps and other voluntary organisations would be helping devotees coming to Pushkaralu. People coming to Pushkaralu would be explained about ways to avoid pollution with the help of TV, radio, banners, sky balloons and posters.

The PCB officials would take up tests like PH, EC, TDS, DO etc. and inform devotees through the mobile application named ‘Krishna Pushkaralu 2016’. The PCB has identified seven major ghats along the River Krishna to carry out water quality monitoring during Pushkaralu.

The ghats include Nadi Agraharam, Beechupally, Gondimalla (near Alampur), Patallaganga (Srisailam) in Mahbubnagar district and Nagarjunasagar, Vadapalli and Matampally in Nalgonda district.
