Warangal: In tune with the tag line - ‘Ever Victorious’ - the cops here carry over the years, the Warangal Police Commissionerate set a record of sorts on Wednesday by planting 10 lakh saplings, which no other government department has achieved individually in the State so far.
Proving a point that they are not only adept in their primary duty, the Commissionerate is also in the forefront of social service and community-based programmes.
This apart, since the formation of Warangal Police Commissionerate, the Commissioner, G Sudheer Babu, has come with a host of activities like ‘Blue Colts’ to keep vigil round-the-clock and reach instantly to any crime spot, ‘She Teams’ to stop eve-teasing and WhatsApp number that help people in distress.
Hawk Eye mobile application, which lets the citizens in distress to contact the cops and get assistance from them, is another initiative introduced by the Commissionerate.
Against this backdrop, the Commissioner, who led the plantation drive from the front, planted the last of the 10 lakh saplings at the district police headquarters here on Wednesday.
The police claim that the feat has achieved by no other department in the State. After the season’s target of plantation of two lakh saplings was completed in the first three days, fuelled by the Commissioner’s zeal the cops went on to complete 10 lakh plantations.
The Commissioner also gave a mythological touch to the programme by taking up the plantation of 2,000 Jammi trees (Prosopis Cineraria). He also provided pedestals so that the people could offer prayers during Vijaya Dasami (Dasara).
Speaking to The Hans India, Sudheer Babu said: “We are not leaving the saplings to their fate after plantation drive.
In fact, we have designated a nodal officer in each police station of the Commissionerate to look after the survival of the saplings.” Division-wise plantation details: Mamnoor 3,96,546; Kazipet 3,26,775; Warangal 1,66,880; Hanamkonda 1,03,926; Crime and
Traffic 17,400.
