Hyderabad: The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) termed the ‘encounter’ of slain gangster Nayeemuddin as ‘extra judicial killing’ and demanded that cases should be registered against the police officials who took part in the gunfire. It demanded high-level enquiry into the incident with a sitting judge of High Court.

A fact finding team led by noted rights activists Jaya Vindhyala, PUCL general secretary visited the spot on Saturday where the ‘encounter’ of Nayeem took place. After examining the site located near Smrithi Vanam at Shadnagar, the team concluded that firing took place only from one side.

Speaking to the media, Jaya Vindhyala said that there were no indications of an ‘encounter,’ as being claimed by the police authorities, but it appears that it was another ‘fake’ encounter.

She felt that if anyone was proved criminal and anti-social, he should be arrested, interrogated and judicial trial should be initiated. “The government could be strengthened if all legal means are adopted, rather than just eliminating them,” she said.

Earlier, the Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) also felt that Nayeem should have been caught alive towards exposing politicians and high ranking police officials who turned him into a gangster. The Committee felt that it would not have been possible for him to carry out such grievous crimes without the support of political leaders and police personnel. “The killing of Nayeemuddin is not the solution for the prevention of crimes.

The only solution is that stringent action should be taken against these kinds of politicians and high ranking police officers and they should be brought to justice for breeding such criminals in order to carry out their own interests,” stated Lateef Mohammed Khan, General Secretary of CLMC.

Lateef pointed out that there were more than 100 cases and 20 murder charges against Nayeem, but still he was able to escape from the police clutches almost 11 times. “How can it be possible? Police personnel take utmost care even in the case of a small criminal, then how come he was able to run away from such police personnel?” he wondered.
