Hyderabad: The city police on Wednesday asked devotees to avoid installing idols that are more than 15 feet in height in areas beyond the Metro Rail route. Since the main procession takes the Moazzam Jahi Market route, the newly-constructed elevated bridge would not support their passage during the final immersion at Hussainsagar on September 15.

The Central Zone police officials, who discussed the issue with office-bearers of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) took note of important intersections measured by L&T engineers at Nampally, M J Market and Badichowdi, near Koti and came to the conclusion that idols which are more than 15 feet height cannot pass below the bridge.

  • Prior police permission must for installing idol
  • Application forms will be available at all city police stations from August 25 to 31
  • Last date for submission of forms is September 1

“At any given point on the route, we observed that the idols more than 15 feet cannot pass the bridge. The height including that of the truck, pedestal and idol should not be more than 20 feet, as at some spots the height of bridge is as low as 23 feet” said Central Zone DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy.

The police officials came to a conclusion that idols with less than 15 feet can pass through M J Market and Malakunta, while idols with less than 13 feet can pass through the Putlibowli- M J Market route.

Meanwhile in a press note issued on Wednesday, city police commissioner M Mahender Reddy asked the organisers to obtain prior police permission in writing from the DCPs for installing idol in their neighbourhood. Application forms for Ganesh idol installation and processions will be available at all the city police stations from August 25 to 31. The organisers must submit forms by September 1.

Mahender Reddy also informed that organisers seeking police clearance for installation should furnish a 'No Objection Certificate' from the owner of the premises or land. Installation will be permitted only at places where it will not cause obstruction to free flow of traffic and where there is no threat to public peace and order. He also stated that unauthorised electricity connection at pandals would not be allowed.

A certificate from TSCPDCL that the electricity connection was authorised has to be obtained and the same should be enclosed with the application form, he said. “Use of loudspeakers will be restricted to box type only.

The noise levels should be kept within the permissible limits. A loud speaker or a public address system shall not be used during the night between 10 pm and 6 am, as per the directions of the Supreme Court of India,” the commissioner said.
