NEW DISTRICT PLAN IN PALAMUR

Mahbubnagar: With the State government almost finalising plans to carve three new districts out of Mahbubnagar, and almost 95 per cent of the population in favour of the new plan, there is lack of consensus among the political parties on the issue of headquarters for the new districts.

As the government has already sent clear indications of creating three new districts viz., Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy and Mahbubnagar and accordingly a draft notification is also expected to be released soon, the Opposition parties are up in arms against the government’s move as they feel that carving out new districts would completely change the geographical and political alignments which would impact on their political foothold.

“At present, we have given all the details being sought by the government on the creation of new districts and have even sent proposals for the creation of 6-7 new mandals. We have also asked the State government to create about 2,000 new posts to meet the requirements of the new districts. As we have sent all details, we are expecting a draft notification soon.

Based on that, the government will seek objections and clarifications from the people and then a clear picture of the formation of the districts will emerge finally. As of now, we are also in the speculation mode,” informed Bhaskar, District Revenue Officer, Mahbubnagar.

For instance, Gadwal MLA DK Aruna has been seeking Gadwal to be made as the district headquarters if Wanaparthy and surrounding regions are carved into a district. Similarly, some leaders from Narayanpeta division are demanding to make Narayanpeta as a new district merging the Makthal, Kodangal and Narayanpeta regions.

At the same time, as the government is planning to merge Shadnagar and surrounding regions with the likely new district of Shamshabad, there are different views being voiced by the people. “If Shadnagar is merged with Shamshabad, it will boost the real estate business in Kothur, Kesampeta and Shadnagar regions.

However, the people are also apprehensive about the emergence of real estate mafia and dominance by politicians from Chevella, Maheshwarm and Shamshabad regions,” observed Srinu, an Opposition leader from Shadnagar.

Overall, it is expected that Mahbubagnar, Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy regions would be carved as new districts, while Shadnagar and some of the mandals in Kalwakurthy such as Madgul and Amangal are expected to be merged with the proposed Shamshabad district.

“The people of Madgul and Amangal will be happy to be merged merged with Shamshabad. Otherwise, the people from Madgul will have to travel more than 90 Kilometres to reach Nagarkurnool as Kalwakurthy is going to come under Nagarkurnool district,” says Bhaskar, another Opposition leader from Kalwakurthy.
