GHMC mulls immersion of Khairatabad idol first
If the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has its way, the Ganesh idol immersion this year would start with the immersion of Khairatabad Ganesh on September 15. ​Hyderabad: If the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has its way, the Ganesh idol immersion this year would start with the immersion of Khairatabad Ganesh on September 15. All these years, the immersion programme concluded with the immersion of Khairatabad Ganesh idol. The GHMC took the decision this year to ease the traffic congestion, said its Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy at a review meeting at the civic body headquarters on Wednesday.
The Khairatabad Ganesh idol procession would begin at 2 pm on September 15, he added. However, the Bhagyanagar anesh Utsav Samithi told The Hans India that it is not willing to accept the proposal and claimed that the procession would continue normally as every year. Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi general secretary Bhagwant Rao said the GHMC authorities have neither consulted them nor sought their suggestion in this regard.
The GHMC commissioner said the corporation has set up nine additional tanks in various locations across the city to minimise the water contamination during the immersion programme. The corporation will set up immersion tanks at Cherlapally, Kukatpally and Rangadhamuni Kunta, Serilingampally (Pedda Cheruvu), Rayadurg (Malka Cheruvu), Nallagandla and Saroornagar (Pedda Cheruvu).
