Hyderabad: Solidarity Struggle Committee for ‘Justice to Rohith Vemula’ here on Monday demanded that the State government implement National Scheduled Castes Commission’s orders.

Solidarity Struggle Committee for ‘Justice to Rohith Vemula,’ which organised a meeting in Prakasam Hall at Gandhi Bhavan here demanded that the government order the arrest of University of Hyderabad (UoH) Vice-Chancellor Apparao Podile, Union Ministers Bandaru Dattatraya and Smriti Irani, MLC Ramchandar Rao and ABVP leader Sushil Kumar, as they were allegedly responsible for the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula under SC/ST (Prevention) of Atrocities Act.

Addressing the meeting, civil rights activist Anand felt that the TRS government was in hand in glove with BJP government at the Centre. Civil rights activists Teesta Setalvad said the uprisings now witnessed were the reaction to the Hindutva-fascist authoritarian rule. She called upon the people to see that Apparao, Dattatreya, Ramchander Rao are arrested. Another civil rights activists K Y Ratnam condemned the attitude of the TRS government towards Rohith’s issue.

Laxmaiah Bandaru, President, KNPS, who presided over the meeting, said the TRS government was anti-Dalit. He also condemned the “pro-upper caste” attitude of the TRS. Abhinav Buram of KNPS said the TRS, which came to power on the wave of fight against the Coastal Andhra capitalists, was now siding with the same capitalists, who were responsible for Rohith Vemula’s suicide. Rohith’s mother Radhika Vemula said, “If Modi has respect for Ambedkar, he should first ensure that the VC is arrested.”
