Will Motkupalli be next Governor?
With Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah completing his tenure on Tuesday, political circles here are abuzz that the Centre may offer the gubernatorial position to the TDP and that the party national president N Chandrababu Naidu would recommend the name of senior most TDP leader in Telangana Motkupalli Narsimhulu.
​Hyderabad: With Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah completing his tenure on Tuesday, political circles here are abuzz that the Centre may offer the gubernatorial position to the TDP and that the party national president N Chandrababu Naidu would recommend the name of senior most TDP leader in Telangana Motkupalli Narsimhulu.
It is being said that the Centre wants to offer this position to TDP as part of its appeasement policy to avoid Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. Though Naidu had in the past indicated that he would recommend the name of Narsimhulu for the post of Governor party sources feel that the very issue may hinder Narsimhulu from becoming governor.
As the Special Status issue has become a stumbling block which could even adversely affect the political fortunes of the party in Andhra Pradesh, the TDP sources feel that Naidu may not accept the proposal. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu who has air dashed to Hyderabad on Wednesday evening is likely to discuss this issue as well with the TDP chief.
When contacted, Narsimhulu told The Hans India that he had heard some rumours but neither the party president nor anyone from New Delhi had given him any such indication. In case Naidu turns down the proposal of the Centre, the former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel is said to be the likely choice.
Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee has asked Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra to discharge the functions of the Governor of Tamil Nadu, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of TN were made.
Om Prakash Kohli, Governor of Gujarat has been asked discharge the functions of the Governor of MP, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Madhya Pradesh are made. MP Governor Ram Naresh Yadav completes his tenure on September 7.
