Adilabad: Many industrialists, who got lands from the state government at nominal prices for setting up industries, have turned realtors to cash in on real estate boom in the district. The greed of industrialists has defeated the very purpose of setting up of industrial parks in the backward district.
The government set up industrial parks in Adilabad, Mancherial and Nirmal to generate employment to local youth and promote economic growth. It allotted 37 acres to 53 industrialists in Adilabad, 25 acres to 45 industrialists in Mancherial and 42 acres to 51 industrialists in Nirmal.
The Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) developed basic infrastructure in the industrial parks. After getting lands allotted at nominal prices in the industrial parks, the industrialists set up small and medium scale enterprises to avail themselves of other incentives in the form of subsidies and tax concessions.
After running the industries for name sake for some time, the industrialists have started winding up the units. As a result, a large number of local people have been rendered jobless. In the wake of real estate boom, the prices of land have skyrocketed to Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore per acre.
In Adilabad industrial park, more than half of the total 53 industrialists have closed down their units. Some of them have sold their units to others at a profit in violation of the rules.
Mancherial has not witnessed any development in ceramic industry as the entrepreneurs closed down their units set up in the industrial park.
In Nirmal, industrialists who got lands allotted for rice and ginning mills, have wound up their units. Some industrialists have taken up real estate ventures in their allotted lands.
The TSIIC which took a serious view of the violations committed by the industrialists, has served notices on them. It has also initiated measures to recover the lands from the errant industrialists.
Speaking to The Hans India, Meesala Siva Prasad, an official of TSIIC, said: “The recovery of lands from the industrialists may consume time as several of them moved court. The TSIIC will not remain a silent spectator if industrialists misuse the land allotted to them in industrial parks.’’
Denouncing the misuse of lands, Bhaskar of Adilabad said: ``Stern action should be taken against the industrialists who became realtors.
The government should recover the lands from the errant industrialists and allot them to young entrepreneurs with a social commitment to promote industrial growth in the district.’’
