​Hyderabad: The Director General of Police on Monday appointed a senior police officer to monitor the ongoing investigation of cases against slain gangster Nayeemuddin and his associates.

DGP Anurag Sharma, in a release, said t the Special Investigation Team formed to probe the crimes committed by Nayeemuddin, alias Nayeem, had so far booked 72 cases on receiving complaints from victims across the State and several persons had been arrested. “A number of cases were booked against Nayeem and his associates.

About t 80 persons have been arrested. The volume of investigation has increased exponentially and the existing strength in SIT needs to be enhanced. Hence, five more officers are added to the existing team,” the DGP said.

Karimnagar ASP Priyadarshini, Khammam ASP Sai Krishna, Special Branch Additional DCP Md Ismail, Goshamahal Traffic ACP P Jaipal and Narsingi Inspector P Ramachandra Rao were the officers added to the existing team.

The DGP also said that “to have better monitoring of the cases, Additional DG (Law & Order) Anjani Kumar has ordered to monitor the process along with IG Y Nagi Reddy, so that investigation can be completed expeditiously.”
“Anjani Kumar will also liaise with the other departments for better investigation and conclusion of the evidence as needed.

The SIT has also been asked to take the services of legal advisor for effective prosecution ,” the DGP added.
