Mulug (Warangal): Tension prevailed here on Thursday as the protests seeking creation of Sammakka Saralamma district with Mulug as its headquarters assumed seriousness.The protests started at 10 am in the morning and continued until 7 pm. The leaders of all political parties, including the ruling TRS, tribal organisations, Bar Association, student organisations took part in the protests.

Burnt tyres were thrown on the roads, disrupting the traffic.More than 6,000 public from all walks of life gathered on NH 163 at Mulug town expressing their support to creation of Sammakka Saralamma district. The irate mobs have pelted stones on RTC buses and wind panes of two buses were damaged in the incident.

Following which the police had resorted lathi charge to disperse the crowds. Hundreds of persons suffered injuries while five persons suffered fractures in their legs and hands. The injured were shifted to local government hospital for treatment. The Congress party leaders, who took out rallies and staged dharna on NH 163 at Mulug town have performed mock funeral of the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao and Tribal Welfare Minister A Chandulal with tonsured heads.

The police have arrested more than 60 protestors including Seetakka and Veeraiah. They were later let off on personal bond. Speaking to press persons on the occasion, Seetakka took serious exception to the CM’s negligent attitude towards the demand of Mulug people.
She reiterated her demand and asked resignations from Minister Chandulal and MP A Seetaram Naik to their posts for their failure to convince the CM in fulfilling the people’s demand.

Meanwhile, the local Bar Association president B Chandraiah and two of its members have take up indefinite hunger strike in support of the demand. The protests would be intensified if government fails to create Sammakka Saralamma district, the leaders warned.
