Telangana Govt to light up TS with PFA by 18
State Government has chalked out an action plan to achieve ‘Power for All (PFA) 24 x7 supply’ by 2018-19 with a capital expenditure of Rs 23,817 crore .
Hyderabad: State Government has chalked out an action plan to achieve ‘Power for All (PFA) 24 x7 supply’ by 2018-19 with a capital expenditure of Rs 23,817 crore . The government, which has submitted the detailed project report to the union government recently, sought Rs 10,000 crore under centrally sponsored Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY) and Integrated Power Development scheme (IPDS).
Establishment of new power generation units with an installed capacity of 5,880 MW, regional transmission development network between Warora in Maharashtra– Warangal – Hyderabad and reduction in distribution loss from 13 per cent to 11 per cent are among the main initiatives the State government is intending to undertake to achieve PFA in a time bound manner.
The government appealed to the Union Ministry of Power to allocate Rs 6,545 crore under DDUGY and another Rs 3,450 crore under IPDS for the development of energy infrastructure in the State. The top officials of the State Energy department told The Hans India that NITI Aayog officials, who recently visited the State and held meeting with state Energy Department, expressed their willingness to extend support to the State under PFA programme.
Under the plan, the proposed Kothagudem Thermal Power project with 800 MW installed capacity and Bhadradri project (4x 270 MW) would be commissioned in 2017-18 and Damaracharla project with 4,000 MW capacity would begin power generation from 2018-19. Financial closure for all the projects has already been achieved. The total installed capacity would increase to 10,180 MW once the new projects are commissioned.
The government also chalked out an action plan to increase the installed capacity of renewable energy to 6 GW ( Giga Watt) from the present 950 MW ( Solar and wind) by introducing new Wind policy and more incentives to the solar energy sector. The target to achieve T& D (Transmission and Distribution) losses below 11 per cent from the present 13 per cent has been given second top priority after the establishment of projects.
It requires nearly Rs 4,300 crore for the adoption of new technology which includes HVDS (high Voltage Distribution System) and deployment of BEE star rated DTRs (distribution transformers), installation of prepaid meters, automatic meter reading using smart meters and segregation of agricultural feeders are among other initiatives to be taken to strengthen the distribution network.
To ensure the supply of power to meet the demand in the peak times, government appealed to the Centre to establish a grid connecting Warora- Warangal- Hyderabad. The proposal is pending before Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for final approval . The other network connecting Wardha – Nizamabad- Hyderabad which is under construction is critical for the evacuation of 2000 MW of power from Chattisgarh . TS government entered into PPA ( Power Purchasing Agreement) with the neighbouring state last year.
