Warangal (Urban): It seems that State government’s efforts to turn Warangal into an educational hub are finally falling into place. Second only to Hyderabad, Warangal has already earned the sobriquet of an educational centre. It boasts of a NIT, Kakatiya University and Kaloji Health University and is on the threshold of adding more institutions to its tally.
Among the big institutions promised by the government – Agricultural College, Sainik School, Veterinary College and IIM are in various stages of fruition, while the prestigious Hyderabad Public School (HPS) campus has already got underway. The HPS branch, which started a bit late this academic year, is offering LKG, UKG and Class I.
The HPS which is running on a temporary building on the suburbs of tri-cities will get its permanent campus next year. The authorities are on a look out for a suitable land for the HPS campus after they found the 12-acre land at Madipally village initially earmarked for the school not fit enough.
Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said: “The authorities were told to examine the land at Elukurthy village under Dharmasagar mandal which is not far away from national highway-163 for the HPS and as well as Sainik School campuses.” It may be noted here that State government had already accorded sanctions for establishing Veterinary College on 120 acres on the 574-acre Livestock Research Station campus in Mamnoor.
It will start functioning from next academic year as the Animal Husbandry Department is pursuing the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) for its permission. Meanwhile, the BSc (Agriculture) College is set to commence classes on the premises of Regional Agriculture Research Centre near Warangal from next week.
The State government also has plans to establish Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Warangal if Centre allots one to Telangana. It may be noted here that Centre has plans to establish an IIM to each State. Urban District Collector Amrapali K said: “Utmost importance will be given in the allocation of land to educational institutions.”
The HPS Society president P Jagadish Reddy, who was here to attend a meeting, assured that efforts are on to add Class II to Class V to their branch in Warangal. Currently, the school has student strength of 40. It is learnt that each class will have 25 students after adding higher classes.
