US envoy dispels visa fears of students
He highlighted the kind of opportunities that USA offers to students who wish to pursue higher studies there. His presentation elaborated the procedures to be followed and the documents to be kept ready during the process of getting visa and underlined the dangers of using fake certificates.
Hyderabad: Students belonging to various disciplines of Engineering and Technology at University College of Engineering, Osmania University, got to know the nitty-gritty of pursuing higher studies in the US, thanks to an illuminating presentation here on Thursday by Adam Ferguson, Fraud Prevention Manager of the US Consulate.
He highlighted the kind of opportunities that USA offers to students who wish to pursue higher studies there. His presentation elaborated the procedures to be followed and the documents to be kept ready during the process of getting visa and underlined the dangers of using fake certificates.
Ferguson exhorted students to come to the USA and appreciated the efforts of Osmania University in the prevention of fraudulent activities.
The students later interacted with him actively, trying to know about the changes in the policies of the USA for prospective students in view of the change in the government. He informed the students that the policies and procedures would not change drastically.
There would not be any problem for genuine students aspiring to study in the USA, he asserted.
University Foreign Relations Office Joint Director Dr P Raja Sekhar coordinated the visit of the official from the Fraud Prevention Unit of the US Consulate General.
Earlier in the day, Adam Ferguson met Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof S Ramachandram and discussed matters pertaining to security features of degree certificates besides degree verifications for the US Consulate.
Adam Ferguson expressed concern over the menace of fake certificates and spoke about the fraud prevention activities of the US Consulate.
OU Controller of Examinations Prof V Appa Rao explained to the team the key security features adopted by OU while issuing certificates. He showed dummies of the certificates and elaborated on their security features.
