Karimnagar: Angal village, which is just 35 km away from the newly-formed district Siricilla, has no bus service. Angal is at a stone’s throw distance from its mandal headquarters Chandurty.

The residents of Angal have to risk chain snatchers while walking along the 5-km-long road to reach headquarters. The stretch is said to be unsafe going by the past experiences to reach Chandurty.

At least one chain-snatching incident a week is reported on this road. With no transport facility, villagers used to travel by tractors.

There are several instances of people travelling by tractor having met with accidents. Now, many villagers prefer walking to reach Chandurty.

Following protest demonstrations by the villagers, six months ago efforts have been made to lay a road to the village. The road development work did not progress beyond dumping of red earth on the road stretch.

The travails of the pregnant and the aged in reaching Chandurty for medical care are less said the better. To reach Chandurty, they have to trek 5-km uneven pathway or take a 25-km-long circuitous route from Vemulavada.

Normally, students travel on the road in groups to reach mandal headquarters as a measure of safety.

Laying of permanent road and bringing bus service has become poll plank during panchayat elections after elections for the past 25 years.

The elected leaders attribute their failure to non-cooperative attitude of the officials. Hence Angal remains inaccessible to rest of the world.

Recently, Chandurty circle police station came into existence but the problems of villagers have been compounded.

Residents of Angal and also of Konaraopet mandal have to travel 80 km distance by bus from headquarters to reach the police station.

The distance would be cut by 60 km if there was a direct bus service from Angal. Residents have no element of pride in stating that they belong to Angal.

According to the village upa sarpanch Janardhan, though there is scope to run an RTC bus to Angal, the authorities are not paying attention. One has to trek 5 km to reach the mandal headquarters.

Otherwise, they have to travel 25 km by changing two buses. The MLA was approached for a solution to the problem, but there was no response from him.

To reach Chandurty police circle, one has to travel 70 to 80 km by bus instead of taking a short-cut route via Angal.

According to the SSC student of government high school, Anusha, they have to trek 6 km to the examination centre at Chandurty.

Generally, students go to Chandurty by walk in groups. If there is a bus service to Angal it would be useful for everyone, she said.

Former sarpanch Lakshmi Rajyam said that she had tried to provide transport service to the village during her tenure. She said officials and people’s representatives did not cooperate with her in her endeavour.

There were instances of robbers looting the people going to Chandurty by walk. There was an instance of a van carrying marriage party met with an accident because of the bad road condition.

When contacted, RTC general manager Chandrashekar at Karimnagar said that there should be a representation from the village for the bus service.

Based on the feasibility of the service, RTC could take a decision to begin the service. Bus service to the village would be operated if there is any scope, he said.
