Hyderabad: Business establishments in Telangana State seem to be slowly adapting to the system of cashless transactions.

According to officials already 90 per cent of the petrol pumps in Hyderabad city have started using swiping machines. At some petrol pumps,
the customers are asked to swipe their cards themselves.

It may be mentioned here that there are about 700 petrol bunks in the city and out them about 600 have adopted to cashless transactions.
However, the remaining 10 per cent petrol bunks are facing problems as people are resorting to heated arguments with the staff as they refuse
to accept Rs 2,000 denomination notes due to acute shortage of smaller denomination notes. Queues, arguments and protests are being
witnessed at such petrol pumps.

According to owners of petrol pumps which are yet to go in for swiping machines, complaints are pouring in that their staff were being verbally
abused. The motorists who used to fill their tanks with old Rs 500 notes are either bringing Rs 100 or Rs 2,000 notes. Those with Rs 100 are
at ease, but the petrol pump managements are not ready to accept Rs 2,000. “We cannot give change of Rs 1,800 or Rs 1,900 to a customer
who buys just two litres of petrol,” they say. “This is leading to the staff being abused by the customers.

Ramana Rao, who regularly buys fuel at the petrol station near the Secretariat, was seen arguing as to why Rs 2,000 was not being accepted.
“All I have is Rs 2,000 notes. Till now I was running after ATMs for cash, now I am running after petrol bunks”, he rued. The managements of
petrol bunks claim that they are not against going in for swiping machines but it is not available due to sudden increase in the demand.

For instance, the petrol pump at the Secretariat run by Civil Supplies department does not have a swiping machine. “Application was forwarded
to officials of the department for providing swiping machines about fifteen days back, but so far there has been no action,” according to an
employee at this petrol station.
