Hyderabad: The opposition Congress is unhappy that the ruling party has not been following established practices with regard to proceedings in the State Assembly.
According to senior Congress leaders like N Uttam Kumar Reddy, it is only because of the Congress party the government has come out with facts with regard to certain issues like closure of Nizam Sugar Factory (NSF), loan waiver scheme and sufferings of farmers.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that only when he specifically pointed out that the Chief Minister had promised to waive farmers’ loans at one go if the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limit was raised; the Chief Minister admitted it and said that he thought so,
but could not implement it because of the impact of demonetisation on the State economy. He said that the government had no answer for its failure to pay compensation to farmers.
Although as many as 2,580 farmers had committed suicide in the past 30 months, not even 10 per cent of them were given ex gratia payment, he said.
Reddy said the State government had been trying to project that only the Telangana Rashtra Samithi had done everything for agriculture as if nothing had happened all these years.
The Congress party, he said, had brought the country out of ‘ship-to-mouth’ situation and made the country not only self-sufficient, but also turned it into an exporting country.
He said that the agricultural output of the State had gone up from 14 lakh tonnes in 1956 to 107 lakh tonnes in 2014.
Another senior leader T Jeevan Reddy told the media that it was unfortunate that the Speaker did not look at the opposition members and was not giving any chance to them to seek clarifications.
Reacting to this, Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that the Speaker was in fact being very considerate. He said after G Narayana Rao, only the present Speaker was most accommodative.
“We have seen speakers like N Kiran Kumar Reddy and K R Suresh Reddy who never used to give any chance to Opposition,” he remarked.
