Hyderabad: In a day of high drama, BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy staged a dharna in front of Hyderabad Mayor Bontu Rammohan’s office on Monday against the inaction of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on bad roads.

Kishan Reddy said though the condition of roads in city was bad, the GHMC had not even completed patch work in many areas.

Where some repair work had been taken up, the very next day, roads were being dug to lay cables, he alleged. There was no coordination between the GHMC wing which took up road repair work and agencies that were involved in laying of cables or pipelines, the BJP MLA said.

Kishan Reddy said the agency that laid cables had got permission to dig one kilometre road but were digging over a stretch of 10 kilometres.

He said during the past few months he had written many letters to the zonal officers and other officials to get the roads repaired.

The officials of GHMC were not doing anything and they had started digging more roads without completing the old repair work, he said.

Later during a press conference, Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatraya also criticised the road conditions in the city and said Hyderabad roads were in a pathetic condition.

The State government, in its party manifesto during the GHMC elections, had promised to make Hyderabad into a global city but so far it could not improve the basic infrastructural facilities, he said.

Earlier in the day, the GHMC officials conducted Prajavani at the GHMC headquarters were people from different areas came forward with their problems like illegal construction, repair of street lights, construction of community halls selected for Swachh Hyderabad and many other issues.

A total of 24 public grievances were registered on Monday.
