Hyderabad: Patients visiting government hospitals should be provided with free diagnostic facilities, medicines and operation theatres of teaching hospitals should be modernised, said Medical and Health minister C Laxma Reddy, on Sunday.

At review meeting on the budget proposals of the department, he said that requirements of hospitals should be planned on the basis of outpatients and inpatients. He observed that the number of patients visiting government hospitals has risen consistently.

The minister said that all medicines should be provided in government hospitals and necessary steps should be taken for the protection of mother and child.

“The activities like enumerating the pregnant women, providing nutritious food and medicines to them and ensuring safe delivery in hospitals should be done effectively. The services of 108 should be used to bring the pregnant women to hospitals and 102 services to drop them at their home after delivery” he said
Laxma Reddy said the newborn would be provided with kits, containing soap, oil, mosquito net, diapers and dress soon.

He added that, as many as 2.5 lakh of deliveries have been taking place in government hospitals and budget should be accorded keeping this in view.
The minister asked the government hospitals to be ready to treat the patients coming in adverse conditions.

“The need to establish government hospitals in the newly-established districts has emerged and area hospitals should also be upgraded. The number of 108 services and hearses should be increased,” he stated. He asked the officials to see that all these issues were addressed in the budget proposals.
