Hyderabad: Significant improvement of law and order is one of the biggest achievements of the State government since the State's formation in June 2014, IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao said here on Tuesday.
"In the last 33 months since Telangana’s formation, most definitely, significant improvement in law and order is one of the biggest victories and achievements of the Telangana State government," Rao said here.
He was speaking at an event that marked launching of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking System (CCTNS) Project which went live. "Around four years ago, prior to formation of Telangana the biggest concern that lot of lawmakers in the country and people outside of Hyderabad had was with respect to potential law and order situation in the newly formed state of Telangana.
There were lot of apprehensions and prejudices and lot of concerns," he said. The people who opposed the formation of Telangana in fact made it one of their biggest talking points and used it as a weapon in New Delhi to convince people who were opposed to the formation on Telangana, KTR said.
"It was frequently mentioned that there would be a large-scale disturbance in the law and order situation in the capital and Hyderabad city would be adversely affected by formation of Telangana state." Soon after formation of Telangana, a decision was taken for providing the biggest grants of Rs 350 crore for police modernisation to ensure law and order, the Minister said.
For attracting investments to any state one of the biggest concern is law and order, he said adding now it is not an exaggeration to say that not only crime rate has been significantly brought down in Telangana State but the State police has become model in policing modernisation.
One of the biggest interventions that Telangana police has employed in the past around three years is that it has adopted technology in a number of its initiatives and the changes brought in through technology adoption has been helpful to the citizens, he said.
"The Chief Minister (K Chandrashekar Rao) says that governance is something that is to be felt by the people. A sense of security comes in when people believe that your law and order machinery is doing its best by way of technology, by way of physical policing, by way of overall sense of safety," KTR added.
