Hyderabad: Telangana Police department is all set to commence the much awaited training for about 10,000 youth selected to work for various wings of the police department. The training is likely to begin from April 10.
Hitherto, the sole aim of training police constables was to make them physically fit. However, the Telangana Police department has made drastic changes in the training manual meant for police constables.
Earlier, police constables had to tackle traditional criminals like pocket pickers, burglars, thieves and snatchers. However, times have changed and criminals are increasingly using technology to commit crimes.
White collar frauds and cyber crimes are on the rise. The previous police training module lacked in training the police personnel in these areas. Since police constables are the first persons who reach a crime scene, they invariably need training in use of technology and they should have thorough knowledge of the laws related to the white collar frauds and cyber crimes, a senior police officer said.
“In purview of the changed scenario, the training manual has been rehashed and we have decided to give laptops to all the trainees. The trainees will be taught cyber laws and laws related to white collar fraud apart from the Indian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code,” the officer said.
Besides, the trainees will be taught how to preserve evidence at the crime scene and how to collect samples for evidence from the crime scene. Special thrust will be given to sensitise the trainees to make them handle in an efficient and proper manner the gender crimes and crimes against
children, the officer said.
Most of the 10,000 trainees are graduates and several of them are even post-graduates. This eases the task of making them modern cops. Once, the pilot batch of police constables complete their training and join duties, the modern police stations in the state will be ready to welcome young force that is no less talented than software engineers, the officer said.
“We are confident that the trainees will change the image of the police force with their modern skills acquired during training and bring laurels for the state police,” said the Director General of Police, Anurag Sharma.
