The Hans India had highlighted the issue in January 4 edition titled “80 TSRTC buses wait for KCR to join fleet.”The buses continue to remain exposed to vagaries of weather in the bus depot. The buses were purchased as part of TSRTC plans to provide connectivity between the Assembly constituencies and the State capital. Sources said these buses were ready and had completed all formalities like obtaining fitness certificate five months ago. A senior official said apart from the regular new buses, mini buses (Vajra) were also added to the depot.

The inauguration which was scheduled in December was postponed as the Chief Minister was busy with Assembly sessions and other meetings. Later, it was decided that these buses would be launched after the end of Assembly sessions but the CMO did not give the dates. Now, the Unions started raising voice, as it had been too long for the buses to be stranded in depots.

The RTC workers said during the last month when the drivers tried to start the stranded buses, some of them did not start. Immediately the officials took up repairs, which increased the burden on the corporation. It is a matter of one hour for the officials to take the buses to the CM’s camp office and inaugurate them.RTC Staff Workers Federation secretary V S Rao said the engine capacity is likely to get affected if they are kept stranded for a long period. He said by keeping the buses in the depot, the officials are adding untold burden on the RTC as they have to pay taxes for these buses without earning any income in return.
