Hanamkonda: Warangal Police Commissionerate once again proved that it means business and nothing auxiliary. The Commissionerate, which was first in the country to achieve the distinction of being free from pending Non Bailable Warrants (NBWs) in 2015, has made it three-in-a-row by repeating what is termed as an enviable feat.

Beginning with 2015, the Commissionerate has never looked back as it continued its sway over the accused, who keep themselves aloof from the judicial proceedings, skipping the warrants. There were scores of NBWs pending when the Commissionerate came into existence, but in the very first year, the police executed 1,070 NBWs, of which it may be noted that 80 NBWs were pending for over a decade.

Ironically, the target for the Commissionerate in 2016 was again 1,070 which they cleared, thus sending a clear-cut message that evading NBWs in the region is all but impossible.

Sharing the achievement with The Hans India on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu said, “We have set our own standards and goals, that’s it. The aim is to get the accused produced before the judiciary. It is not good for the society if the people with criminal record roam around freely evading the arrest warrant at their will.

” It may be noted here that the conviction rate has gone up by at least 40 per cent since the formation of the Warangal Commissionerate on June 12, 2015. In all, 2,996 convictions were recorded during this period.

The clearance of pending warrants paves way for speedy trials which subsequently leads to reduction of pendency of cases in the courts, he said, stating that they have cleared all the 884 NBWs by June 28. Be it the implementation of smart policing initiatives to make Warangal safe and secure or the community-based programmes, the entire Commissionerate has a specific role to play, the Commissioner said.

For the execution of NBWs, the police formed special teams to identify the accused. The Commissionerate’s Central Zone stood on top executing highest number of NBWs with 445, followed by East Zone with 224 and West Zone with 215. Of which, at least 30 accused were picked up from neighbouring States including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

In other development, the Commissionerate police had on Saturday booked Neralla Sathish of Kothapally village under Kalva Srirampur in Karimnagar district who is residing in Parkal of Warangal Urban district under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act for indulging in ganja peddling.
