Solar-powered LED lights to brighten ORR
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has been contemplating over installing solar panels on Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch for the illumination of light-emitting diode (LED) lights, computer systems installed in toll plazas, bore well, water sumps and other purposes.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has been contemplating over installing solar panels on Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch for the illumination of light-emitting diode (LED) lights, computer systems installed in toll plazas, bore well, water sumps and other purposes.
The HMDA will establish a solar power plant with an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore on the ORR stretch. The solar plant will be set up in a strategic location which will provide power supply to all existing and future projects that will be established on ORR.
A power substation will be constructed and the power will be supplied through power grids installed on the ORR stretch.
The HMDA utilises around 23 lakh units of power per month for operating toll plaza canopies and other electronic devices. The 20 megawatts (MW) of solar power will be used to maintain electronic system, LED lights, toll plazas, water sumps and other purposes.
When asked about the same, a senior HMDA official said the solar power panels had been proposed for the 158 kilometres of ORR, and a 20 MW solar plant would be taken up for operating toll plazas and LED lights.
It had been estimated that around 23 lakh units power is been utilised every month. He said the estimated cost of the solar plant is Rs 80 crore and there is enough land for the establishment.
The HMDA official said the HMDA would set up solar plants in such way that they will be connected to nearby sub-stations that will be connected to a grid. The electricity department and other line departments have been working on the project, official added.
