Warangal: Barely a week to go for the varsity’s 21st convocation and ahead of NAAC team’s visit next month, Kakatiya University (KU) is facing a tempest of a situation with its four-decade-old pride at stake with the examination branch’s goof ups coming to the fore one after another. This in addition to the problems that varsity was already facing.

With no recruitment for the last few years, the shortfall of teaching faculty increased to 60 per cent. It may be noted here that varsity has only 387 sanctioned posts against the actual requirement of over 600. With many a professor lined up for superannuation in the next two years, it’s going to be an unenviable position for the varsity to retain its A-Grade. It may be noted here that NAAC panel is scheduled to reassess the varsity functioning next month.

Against this backdrop, administration’s fiasco surrounding the results of the entrance test for admissions into the Ph.D and M.Phil courses, and the goof up that came to fore in degree examinations, has dented the image of the varsity further.
Admitting that there was a goof up in Ph.D entrance test results, Vice-Chancellor R Sayanna told The Hans India: “It happened due to overcautiousness.

The administration reacted in a transparent manner after it came to know the discrepancies, placing the scanned copies of OMR sheets of all the candidates online besides releasing the preliminary key.

The issue will be solved in a few days.”It may be noted here that following the widespread protests after marks fiasco came to fore, additional controllers of examinations P Malla Reddy (degree section) and T Srinivasa Rao (confidential section) have resigned from their posts.

While demanding a probe into the irregularities, PDSU district president Durgam Saraiah, who pursuing Ph.D in Sociology, demanded the government to ensure transparency in the conduct of examinations.

Meanwhile, it’s alleged that with vested interests a section of people in the administration is behind flaring up the issue further even after the VC had taken remedial measures to ensure transparency in the results of Ph.D/M.Phil entrance test. On the other hand, it’s learnt that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has been serious over the developments taken place in the varsity.

Playing down the recent developments, the V-C said that Governor ESL Narasimhan and some professors from IIT Delhi are slated to attend the convocation to be held on July 15.
