Narcotic drug gang busted, 2 Nigerians arrested

Hyderabad: Close on the heels of a drug racket being busted in Hyderabad wherein school and college students, besides techies and members of film industry, were said to be buying and using drugs by using social media, the Special Investigation Team on Saturday busted a narcotic drug gang operating in the twin cities.

According to sources, this is a breakthrough involving Nigerians. The Nigerian gang, the police said, has been operating using modern technology like darknet websites to market the products which were procured from abroad. However, this gang had no link with the Kelvin gang nabbed earlier.

It may be mentioned here that a number of these ‘foreign students’, especially the Nigerians and Caucasians, were regularly being caught by the police while trying to smuggle in contraband drugs.

Based on the information provided by an arrested Nigerian, the SIT officers kept a vigil at a star hotel in the Banjara Hills area and nabbed two persons while supplying cocaine to the hotel customers.

The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Mohamed Zeeshan Ali aka Jack of Mehdipatnam and Bernard Wilson aka Noah Prank of Sun City. The excise officials recovered 12 grams of cocaine and four mobile phones from them.

Joint commissioner of excise Ajay Rao and assistant commissioner J Hari Krishna told the media that they had received a tip-off on the toll free number set up by the department following which the task force team swung into action.

Zeeshan was caught when he reached the said star hotel to deliver the narcotic substance. However, the buyer managed to escape. The accused told his interrogators that he worked as a manger in a hotel and the buyer was an event manager.

Officials, however, did not disclose his name. The officials also arrested Bernard, a Nigerian living in Sun City area. He claims to be a student pursuing BCA. However, the information needs to be verified.

The excise officials said the two drug peddlers had been getting narcotic substance from a Nigerian identified as Kernard, living in Delhi, through courier.

The officials are analyzing the call data records of the drug peddlers to identify their network of drug suppliers and substance abusers.
