Hyderabad: Due to the recent ban of hookah, the revenue of coffee outlets at hookah parlours has plunged to 20 per cent. The police conducted four raids on hookah parlours to make sure that there is no hookah facility provided to customers. Coffee shop owners claimed that the recent raids resulted in low turnout of customers and their business has dropped by 80 per cent.

The customers are not willing to spend their weekends in such ambience, said Mohit, owner of a coffee shop in Banjara Hills. “My business has been affected drastically with these raids for the past one month.

I’ve lost 80 per cent of my earnings and I’m barely able to run the coffee shop that has 15 employees.” Majority of the customers are in the age group of 18-35 years and due to lack of business, 194 coffee shops face the threat of closure.

Due to the ban on hookah, my favourite place has been shut down and all the places which are frequently visited by the youngsters are under the radar since the drug issue.” said a youth.
